Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood is opening up our monthly meetings, to the general community, with engaging discussions and presentations.
In addition to its usual business, the Jan. 2 monthly meeting of the Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood will focus on the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, a charitable organization that supports those who serve in Israel’s armed forces. Brotherhood’s guest speaker will be Major General (Res.) Meir Klifi-Amir.
Military service is compulsory in Israel and after their stints in uniform the veterans are subject to immediate call-up as reservists for several more years. Friends of the IDF exists to take care of soldiers, veterans and families. FIDF recruits Israeli and American supporters to adopt soldiers during their service, and goes on to provide financial, medical and spiritual aid to those in need. In 2017 alone, it touched the lives of 80,000 soldiers, veterans and bereaved families.
Gen. Klifi gave 33 years of distinguished service to the IDF, including commanding the legendary 55th Paratroopers Brigade whose exploits included capturing the Old City of Jersualem in the 1967 war, and as Military Secretary to two Prime Ministers, before taking the reins of Friends of the IDF after leaving the service.
A buffet dinner is available, prior to the presentation, for $10.00 per person; and must be reserved 24 hours in advance.
